Bijayini Satpathy

Bijayini Satpathy is an award-winning dancer and Director of Dance Education for Nrityagram, a premier performing ensemble, school, and village based in India. The company, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, is known for its innovative choreographic works rooted in Odissi, one of the eight classical dances of India. Satpathy has been recognized for her pathbreaking transformations of classical technique through her novel interpretations of Odissi’s movement vocabulary. She has presented her art globally at prestigious dance venues, both as part of the ensemble and as soloist—highlights include performances at Jacob’s Pillow, Baryshnikov Arts Center, American Dance Festival, Festival D’Ile de France, Konark Dance Festival, and several appearances at New York’s Joyce Theater.
