Gilberto Martinez Martinez (He/They), known artistically as Gilmtzm, is a Chicanx Queer artist hailing from Riverdale, CA. Drawing from his rich cultural heritage and personal experiences, Gilberto's work boldly explores the intersections of identity, culture, and queerness, striving to push boundaries and foster inclusivity within the dance community. With six plus years of experience in teaching and choreography, he has worked with students from middle school to the collegiate level. Gilberto's ambition is not only to excel as a performer and choreographer but also to be a catalyst for change, using dance as a powerful tool for expression, connection, and social justice. His journey is driven by a desire to inspire others and to create a world where art and identity can flourish together. Though Modern and Contemporary dance are his primary disciplines, Gilberto's extensive training in Ballet, Jazz, and various social dance forms reflects his dedication to versatility and artistic growth. His commitment to arts education extends beyond the studio; he has played pivotal roles in arts administration at Fresno City College and Roosevelt High School of the Arts, advocating for the importance of dance in education. He recently graduated with a degree in Dance & Performance Studies from UC Berkeley and will continue his dance research pursuing an M.F.A. in Choreographic Inquiry at UCLA.
