M.F.A. in Choreographic Inquiry

We promote adventurous choreographic experimentation while engaging with global discourses around the body and performance.

WACD’s two-year M.F.A. degree in Choreographic Inquiry is designed for choreographers and performance makers who wish to contribute to ongoing discourses in the fields of dance making and interdisciplinary performance. Their creative experiments expand understandings of the body as a site of knowledge, memory, pleasure, resistance, and possibility.

WACD’s faculty of choreography are artists whose inquiries and robust creative practices contribute to dynamic discourses within the dance field and whose practices also inform their pedagogy and mentorship.

The MFA in Choreographic Inquiry has the unique affordance of existing alongside WACD’s PhD in Culture and Performance Studies, bringing together a cohort of scholars and artists who create and consider performance through lenses that include experimental ethnography, performance studies, critical dance studies, curatorial studies, environmental humanities, and visual culture. Cohorts frequently establish enduring ties that sustain beyond graduate study and into continued professional contributions. See the full M.F.A. program details on the Graduate Division's website.
