Kate Myers
M.F.A. in Choreographic Inquiry
Kate Myers, originally from Ohio, is a contemporary choreographer and somatic practitioner. She is interested in the intersectionality of dance as a multifaceted inquiry and utilizes science, athleticism, and psychology to guide the research. Myers values the use of score and uses it to create interdisciplinary work that infuses sound design/editing, film, writing, academic research, and studio art. At UCLA, she hopes to create an evening-length work titled ENVIRO-mentalites that is motivated by the symbiosis between psychology and science that is inherent in nature. She is influenced by the work of Anna Halprin, Nicole Beutler, ideologies from the postmodern era, and the Viewpoints. The work/research will become a tool of embodiment of nature's biology and beauty, as well as a way to foster community. This motivation stemmed from research on the biology of a cloud as a form of embodiment for dancers to access freedom, presence, and flow.
