Mihika Banerjee (she/her) was introduced into the world of dance at the early age of three. She has received Visharad (Masters) in Indian classical dance forms of Bharatnatyam and Odissi and has been blessed with opportunities to perform widely within her home country, India, and abroad. These experiences have provided her the impetus to pursue the subject matter further, academically.

Mihika pursued her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Presidency University, Kolkata. She was awarded the Gold Medal in M.A Sociology 2016-2018. She has completed her M. Phil from Centre for Studies in Social Sciences Calcutta. Her thesis titled “Staging the ra(a)striya: patronage and politics of dance festivals in Odisha, India” researched upon state planning, cultural festivals and tourist economy in and around Odisha. Her academic interests largely include South Asian traditions and practices, cultural nationalism, cultural embodiment, socio-historical-political (re)presentations, identity, experiences, and memory (per)formed through art amongst others. A segment of her M.A dissertation titled the “The Formative and Performative Aspects of Tagore’s Nrittya-Nattya” was selected and published by Banglar Purattatva Gabeshna Kendra in September 2018. Her research papers have been presented in several august conferences organized by reputed institutions and organizations.

Mihika was honoured with the Governor’s Award for her service at Bharat Scouts and Guides. Mihika has also been an educator at a digital learning platform, Notebook, from 2019-2021.
