Sabine Escuro
Ph.D. in Culture and Performance
Sabine is a Colombian artist with a background in music, dance, and spoken word poetry, along with degrees in philosophy and vocal performance. Her main interests are existentialism, the psychology/neuroscience of meaning, and topics of alienation and freedom. Most of her artistic and academic work is rooted in non-normative ways of weighing the value of pessimism, hopelessness, melancholy, atheism, and solipsism and contrasting how these are performed and perceived in Latin American and US-centric contexts. Outside the academic world, Sabine writes and releases her own solo music/poetry in Spanish and performs with Mestifonía, a group that constructs its own version of flamenco, fado, bolero, and other styles of Ibero-American music.
