Alma Hawkins Memorial Chair presentation

Second annual Alma Hawkins Memorial Chair, Ligia Lewis, will give a lecture/presentation on her current research and performances.

Upon the invitation to World Arts and Culture/ Dance Department in her role as a visiting artist, Ligia Lewis will discuss her choreographic practice and her ongoing interrogation of embodiment through embodied practice. With an emphasis on the latter, Lewis believes that choreography is an invitation to wrestle with the symbolic and material force of the body and to do so ethically.

Lewis has worked extensively in the field of dance and choreography. Her work can be described as experientially rich and complex. Lewis' awards include a Bessie Award for her production minor matter, a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant, and a Prix d’ Jardin Award for her work Sorrow Swag. Lewis is produced in part by HAU Hebbel-am-Ufer Theater in Berlin. Her work tours internationally.

This event is free and open to the public.
